In our "Packaging Systems" business unit, everything revolves around the "development and construction" of packaging machine solutions. These are divided into four areas:

• Application Engineering: This is where complex customer inquiries are designed, planned and technically clarified. From this phase onwards, project management assumes overall responsibility for implementation, costs, quality and adherence to deadlines, and acts as the spokesperson both internally and externally until the project is completed. After successful acceptance by the customer, the project is handed over to After-Sales for further support over the life-cycle.
• Order Engineering: This area deals with constructive order processing. Regardless of whether the customer request is "standard" or "special" – this is where the mechanical and electrical design as well as the programming of the customer requirements are implemented. This also includes the documentation and validation of our solutions to ensure compliance with norms and standards.
• Assembly: Once the solution has been designed and the material procured, the assembly groups and machines are installed in the cycle or in the box. After an in-depth function test, the machines are combined into one line and, in collaboration with the customer, are accepted as part of a Factory Acceptance Test (FAT). This is followed by the Site Acceptance Test (SAT) at the customer's premises.
• Product Development: We are driving forward our portfolio of solutions through new and further developments, regardless of the order, in order to remain both innovative and competitive. From concept to engineering, prototyping, testing and pilot series support, through to maintenance throughout the entire life-cycle, new functions, technologies and solutions are developed here. The testing and guarantee of machine safety also takes place here.

Our experts in this area are dedicated to customer loyalty and satisfaction – even after the machine has been delivered. During the life-cycle of our packaging machines, which can last up to 40 years, new requirements or machine adaptations frequently arise.

• From advice on selecting suitable components to comprehensive technical order processing, including the mechanical, electrical and software implementation of customer requirements, right through to full service after installation of the machine – all activities are included here.
• Our in-house assembly department carries out the electrical and mechanical customer modifications. This also includes the planning, technical implementation and monitoring of upgrades and retrofits as well as training on our machines.
• This business unit also includes our production department, which is responsible for everything to do with milled and turned parts.

This business unit therefore includes specialists from the fields of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and automation technology, as well as from the commercial, IT and assembly sectors.

This business unit is a strategically important area that has grown enormously in recent years - and has diversified accordingly.

• The Digital Solutions business unit is responsible for all digital solutions at Uhlmann
• This is where our innovative Pexcite Suite is developed, which offers a wide range of functions for planning, controlling, optimising and monitoring pharmaceutical packaging processes in addition to the HMI  
• Machines and equipment are networked to ensure efficient and safe production processes
• Close cooperation with customers ensures that individual requirements can be implemented and customised solutions delivered
• A strong focus is placed on the development of data-based solutions in connection with analytics and AI

In the business unit Software developers, architects, testers, project managers, project engineers and installers of camera and printing systems, among others, work together in the business unit to successfully realise the projects.

This unit is responsible for the entire process, from procuring the necessary materials and internal logistics processes, through to delivering the manufactured machines, parts and components to the customer.

• It is essential to build and maintain long-term, partnership-based relationships with suppliers, taking strategic aspects into account both locally and globally.
• The range of product groups to be procured is diverse and includes external machines, electrical components, mechanical components and various services. The aim here is to supply both production and non-production units with the necessary equipment in good time to ensure that they are ready for operation.

The Sales business unit has numerous tasks:

• It is responsible for the sales of our products, services and digital solutions, monitors changes in the customer landscape, develops strategies for market cultivation and positions the company as a leading provider in the packaging sector, particularly for the pharmaceutical industry.
• To achieve this, colleagues from Global Sales and Marketing work closely with Strategic Product Management. The main objectives are to generate incoming orders and continuously optimize market cultivation in the regions. Strategic planning for the global business and coordination with the foreign companies is therefore also anchored in sales. 
• New digital sales tools are being used to improve the customer experience and digitalize the customer journey in its entirety.
• The Sales and Marketing team also takes care of brand management, product campaigns and the organization of our trade fair appearances, among other things. With creative ideas and a deep understanding of our customers' needs, they help to ensure that Uhlmann is perceived as a strong brand worldwide.
